What are face oils and why should we use it?
Face oils are oil-based liquid skincare products designed to be used on the face. They're often formulated with botanical natural oils and essential oils, which are safe for all skin types and won't cause breakouts or clogged pores…in fact often face oils are formulated to help prevent both of these. When applied as the last step of your skincare routine in the morning, face oil can act as an effective barrier for the outer layer of your skin.
Face oils are designed and produced to provide the skin and skin barrier with moisture and they help lock in the hydration to prevent loss of moisture to the skin. Face oils can help nourish, soften and balance all skin types to create a healthy, natural glow.
For some people, natural skincare in the form of a moisturiser is what they prefer as they think of face oils as ‘oily’ or perhaps they have breakouts and think that a face oil will exacerbate the problem. In fact, the reverse is true and we think face oil is one of the best skincare products you can use on a daily basis, especially an organic face oil.
As you age, skin can appear dull and dry as your skin produces fewer natural oils over time as cell regeneration diminishes. Dehydration plays a big part in the hydration of your skin, as does lack of sleep and infrequent exfoliation. Face oil can also be used for an immediate soft, dewy effect as well as a natural highlight.. but we recommend that a face oil becomes part of your daily skincare routine.
What is the skin barrier
Your skin is made up of layers (The topmost layer -epidermis, the middle layer -dermis, and the bottom layer-hypodermis) each of which performs important functions in protecting your body.
The skin barrier is the outermost layer of your skin. It consists of tough skin cells and it prevents harmful environmental toxins and pathogens to enter the body. It also keeps the body’s water in balance. When these outer layers are healthy, skin feels soft, supple and plump. Your skin barrier is essential for good health and it needs to be protected in order to function properly.
Which oils help repair the skin barrier
It’s good to nourish the skin barrier with repairing ingredients such as fatty acids, cholesterol, ceramides and hyaluronic acid. Differing ratios of essential fatty acids are major determinants of the barrier repair benefits of natural oils. Oils with a higher linoleic acid to oleic acid ratio (like Prickly pear seed oil) have better barrier repair potential.
Does Rosehip oil help to repair the skin barrier
Rosehip Oil contains essential fatty acids and Vitamins A, E and C which are natural sources of antioxidants. With its high Vitamin A content (a natural retinol), the oil converts into trans-retinoic acid when applied to the skin which helps support cell generation and increases collagen and elastin in the skin. The Vitamin E and C oxidants protect the skin from damage caused by environmental aggressors and air pollutants. When the skin gets damaged, the oil closes up the cracks to repair the skin’s protective barrier, sealing in moisture. They also help to even out skin tone and brighten the skin with the Vitamin C components working on the top layer and Vitamin E working deeper into the skin. Rosehip oil is one of the few oils which is clinically proven to increase moisture, elasticity and reduce wrinkles – leaving you with happy and healthy skin.
Here at Relaxayvoo we strongly believe in the power of these oils – so much so, we included Rosehip oil, Prickly pear oil and Argan oil in our RENEW Face oil. PROTECT Face oil also contains oils which strenghten the skin barrier such as Evening primeros, Camelia and Vitamine e.
A good and natural skincare routine is an essential part of every day life to promote a natural glow and improve skin barrier function.
